The band formed in Portland, Oregon during a summer. Since that time the band has toured up and down the west coast, played live sessions on KEXP and KPSU, and played supporting act to Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Forward Russia, The Ocean Blue, Matt Pond PA, Menomena, Derby, and the Upsidedown. They have seen their songs used in a film at ‘The Sundance Film Festival”, the PDX-POPNOW! Compilation, the Los Angeles based "Indie Hits" Compilation, and paired with the groundbreaking experimental footage of Stan Brakhage in an advertisement for Oregon State University.
In the short time since the release of their debut album 'Division', they have made a number of fans, including high profile Seattle DJ John Richards of KEXP and 107.7 The End. The band performed live on Kexp during the noon hour. They have also been featured on the popular pdxpopnow! compilations for both 2004 and 2006 and played at the festival those same years. Tea for Julie has just finished recording the highly anticipated follow up. "Tea For Julie's debut is one of the strongest self-released debuts I've ever heard. While showing many influences along the way, each track is distinctive and with its own voice. I highly recommended this band both recorded and live. Expect great things from Tea For Julie" -John Richards The Morning Show KEXP 90.3 Seattle / Young & The Restless The END 107.7 Seattle "Post-punk lingers and indie rock explodes in this dynamic live session from Portland band Tea for Julie. Pop-smart hooks and melancholy lyrics bring well-timed hits of bass and humor as Tea for Julie rework the classic indie-pop form with a freshness only found in sincerity." -M. Myers - KEXP 90.3 Seattle "Tea For Julie swells with luscious pop-rock nectars; their vocal melodies recall both the lilting melancholy of The Smiths and the refined angst of early '90s Radiohead, submerged in buzzing guitar hooks and buoyant drumming. The result is a consistent but adaptable sound that soars from graceful sonic craftsmanship to the heights of explosive, driving rock." -Evan James - Portland Mercury |
